PUBS FROM THE PAST
By Fred Smith
Offices & banks is Watfords theme,
Its nothing like the old regime,
The local pubs have been pulled down,
A decent pub now can't be found.
The Cricketers, Three Tuns and The Swan,
The Fox and Leathersellers,
They've all gone,
New Inn, Greyhound and Charlie Packers,
To close them all they must be crackers.
The O.B.H., The Anglers and The Dog,
We could find them in the fog,
The King Billy, The Anchor and Three Crowns,
To pull them down they must be clowns.
White Hart, Jolly Gardners and Coachmakers,
Now it's wine bars just like Shakers.
The Kings Head and two called The Queens,
These old Pubs they stood serene.
The Eight Bells, Two Railways and Spread Eagle,
The Malden and the Crown at Garston stood quite regal,
The Compasses, Old Veralum and Greenman,
Full of The Irish drinking Black & Tan.
The character of these pubs so rare,
Was there for all of us to share.
The Local has now disappeared,
A new social drinker is now reared,
Disco's and wine bars is the trend,
The local pubs coming to an end.
This friendly atmosphere has gone forever,
Will it return?
No, not ever
